In mid-November, the mobile phone numbers of more than 487 million WhatsApp users were listed for sale in well-known hacking forum online.
The actor who listed this information claims there is information on over 32 million users from the US. The dataset also allegedly contains millions of mobile numbers from countries such as Egypt (45 million), the UK (11 million), and Italy (35 million).
According to Cybernews, the seller did not specify how they obtained it, but they did say that all the numbers were active WhatsApp Users. So far WhatsApp's parent company Meta has not responded to Cybernews' request for comment.
Leaked numbers could be used for phishing, marketing or fraud. Be wary of any unknown calls or texts, specifically ones with links, or that ask you to visit a website.
